luggage sizes

I have looked at the Air India website for allowable sizes and weights for both carry on and checked baggage and have found different sizes and weights in different locations on the website.

Does anyone know what the allowable sizes and weights actually are?

Thanks,

Ellen

It looks as if it's the standard 2 bags at max 23 kg/50 lbs each. However, Air India has sometimes offered extra baggage allowances to students going FROM India to the US etc., and it would seem reasonable that they should also offer it in the other direction. Probably Ruth can find out something from the travel agency.

Air India Baggage Requirements
According to Air India, you may take 1 carry on piece weighing no more than 10 pounds, plus 2 pieces of checked baggage each weighing no more than 50 pounds. The total dimensions (L + W + H) must not exceed 62 inches for one bag and 60 inches for the second bag.

I just spoke with the travel agency and they recommend that we follow the baggae requirements posted on Air India's website (www.airindia.com).

Listed below is what I found on their website which essentailly says that 1 carry on bag is allowed (56 cm x 45 cm x 25cm)less than 10 pounds and 2 checked pieces of luggage are allowed.

Economy Plus and Economy Class: Two pieces. Linear dimension (length+height+width) of both pieces should not exceed 273 cm (107inches). Moreover, the linear dimensions of each piece should not exceed 158 cm (62inches). The weight of each bag must not exceed 23 kg (50 lbs).
